Are you a proactive leader with a passion for driving excellence in health, safety, quality, and environmental (SHEQ) standards? We are looking for a dedicated SHEQ Manager to oversee and mitigate the risks associated with our household recycling/waste transfer centre (HRRC/WTS) and our corporate office.
This is a pivotal role where your expertise will directly influence the safety of our workforce and our commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Opportunity
As our SHEQ Manager, you will serve as the strategic lead and operational guardian of our compliance frameworks. You will be responsible for fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement at two distinct sites: our busy operational waste facility and our administrative office based in West Drayton. This role offers the unique opportunity to bridge the gap between heavy industrial operations and corporate governance, ensuring that the highest standards are maintained across every facet of our organisation.
What You'll Do
- Get us ready for ISO accreditation (e.g., 9001, 14001, 45001) but ultimately ensure all our site activities strictly adhere to legislative requirements, waste industry regulations and site environmental permits.
- Conduct regular site inspections, risk assessments, and internal audits at both the HRRC/WTS and office locations.
- Champion a “safety-first” mentality, delivering toolbox talks, safety training, and engagement initiatives to staff at all levels.
- Lead through accident investigations, identify root causes, and implement robust corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Monitor environmental performance, manage waste permits, and support the oversight of carbon reduction initiatives with our wider team to ensure we meet our sustainability targets.
- Provide clear, data-driven reports to the senior leadership team regarding KPIs, audit outcomes, and emerging safety trends.
Who You Are
- You are a knowledgeable practitioner who balances technical rigour with strong interpersonal skills. You understand that true safety is achieved through engagement, not just paperwork.
- You possess significant experience in a SHEQ Leadership role, ideally within the waste, logistics, or heavy manufacturing sectors.
- You hold a relevant qualification such as the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and are a Graduate or a Chartered member of IOSH (or actively working towards it).
- You have a deep understanding of UK health and safety legislation, environmental permit regulations, and ISO management systems.
- You are comfortable working in both an office environment and on the operational floor of a waste facility. You are pragmatic, approachable, and able to communicate complex requirements clearly to diverse teams.
Why Join Us?
- You will play a vital role in protecting our people and the environment, contributing directly to the sustainability of our region.
- We are committed to your growth, offering support for further certifications and continuous professional development.
- You will be joining a team which is dedicated, forward-thinking, and values integrity, transparency and high performance.
- You will have access to a flexible working environment, hybrid working, the Local Government Pension Scheme, 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, and ongoing personal development.
