Overview

Speech and Language Therapist role at West London NHS Trust.

West London FCAMHS is a community-based forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service model delivering across eight boroughs in North West London. It sits alongside two other London-based FCAMHS and will be part of a nationwide network of new and existing services.

The core North West London FCAMHS team includes a Forensic Adolescent Psychiatrist, a senior Clinical Psychologist, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, a Senior OT and an administrator. The team base is Armstrong Way. The primary aim of the FCAMHS is to provide specialist forensic child and adolescent mental health expertise at a variety of levels to a variety of institutions and networks working with young people under 18 years of age who meet referral criteria.

A wide range of agencies will have contact with young people who are exhibiting high risk behaviour. It is anticipated that a proportion of these young people will be within the Youth Justice system, but many will not. West London FCAMHS will welcome initial contacts about possible referrals and responses to enquiries will be prompt and timely.

Following successful referral, the FCAMHS team will provide consultation and advice to the referring team; a small number of young people will be case managed by FCAMHS but this will be done in partnership with the local team who will retain the care coordination responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • To provide expert SLT (speech and language therapy) assessment, treatment and consultation skills in working with vulnerable young people.
  • To contribute to the safety and effectiveness of the team in working with vulnerable young people.
  • To develop and provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SALT) to young people with speech, language, communication and dysphagia needs across North West London as part of the Forensic CAMHS service.
  • To develop partnership opportunities and joint working with other clinical and non-clinical professionals and liaise with other agencies as appropriate, particularly MDT colleagues, schools, social services and SEN education colleagues within the eight London Boroughs that the service covers.
