Responsibilities
You will work with a minimum of three other staff in each session and assist patients in simple tasks that give a sense of achievement. This role is face-to-face, practical and includes taking session notes and maintaining patient records. The assistant works with patients who have a primary diagnosis of serious mental illness or personality disorder, supporting the process of work-ability sessions and engaging with staff and patients. The RTS assistant supports patients in a variety of therapeutic activities including gardening, pottery, wood-craft, picture framing, professional publishing and printing.
Key tasks
- In the wood-craft area: construction of a bird box, jigsaw cutting, wood turning on a lathe, pyrography engraving.
- In the horticultural area: tasks in the greenhouse or allotment such as seeding, weeding, grass cutting.
- Assist patients in simple tasks to build a sense of achievement.
- Work with two other staff familiar with the patients' needs.
Required skills and experience
- Practical experience in gardening or wood-work skills.
- Ability to learn practical tasks quickly.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience working with people who may have serious mental health or personality disorders.
