Join the governing body ('the Corporation') of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College to determine strategy and monitor performance of a further education college with a mission of aiming high and changing lives.

Governors bring their professional experience and personal attributes to support the college's educational mission. The Board includes a wide range of experiences and professional backgrounds. It is not necessary to have worked in an educational setting to serve as a college governor. The college values outside perspectives as much as experience from other educational institutions. We seek individuals committed to the college's mission, vision, and values, willing to contribute fully, and able to dedicate around 6-10 hours per month, including meetings, visits, training, and networking events. Meetings are a mix of in-person and online sessions. You will apply your professional skills and external insights to help the College meet external challenges effectively.

What are we looking for?

The College uses the Education and Training Foundation's competency framework for governors, focusing on leadership, values, and technical understanding. Prospective governors should demonstrate most of the following:

  • Leadership: Strategic thinking, ethical leadership, stakeholder engagement, constructive challenge, effective communication.
  • Values/Behaviours: Connecting ideas, promoting inclusion, honest communication, uniting people around a shared vision, delivering results.
  • Technical Skills: Understanding college performance metrics, facilities, workforce, risk management, and financial interpretation.

What will you be doing?

West London College has three centers providing training and development for over 10,000 students annually. The governing body, comprising external members, staff, student governors, and the CEO, oversees college strategy and operations. The CEO manages daily activities, supported by a Director of Governance and a senior leadership team. The Board ensures the college's strategic direction aligns with its mission and assets.
