Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and flexible salaried GP to join West Leeds Family Practice, working between 4–6 sessions.

The practice is based over three nearby sites.

This opportunity is available to both newly qualified and experienced GPs who want to work in a forward‑thinking training practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Making professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self‑referenced or referred from other health‑care workers within the organisation
  • Assessing the health‑care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease‑management protocols
  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate
  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Compiling and issuing computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand‑written prescriptions whenever possible)
  • Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever clinically appropriate
  • Providing counselling and health education
  • Collecting data for audit purposes
  • Maintaining awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, e. g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
  • A commitment to life‑long learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice
  • Contributing to evaluation, audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation

About us

West Leeds Family Practice is a forward‑thinking professional organisation and a high‑achieving QOF Practice.

We serve 21,000 patients with a large team of GPs, nurses, HCAs and administration.

We are a training practice for GP registrars and Leeds University medical students.

In‑house services for our patients include family planning (implants and coils), minor surgery, paramedic home‑visiting support, pharmacy team with PCN pharmacist support, social prescribing, occupational therapists, physio first service, ultrasound scanning, community matron and frailty nurse support.

  • Job responsibilities
  • Be available in accordance with the practice timetable to undertake surgery consultations, telephone consultations, patient home visits, repeat prescription sign‑off and timely handling of queries, paperwork and correspondence.
  • Carry out all duties listed under “Main duties of the job”.
  • Ensure compliance with practice policies, data protection, confidentiality and health & safety regulations.
  • Commit to continuous professional development, audit and evidence‑based practice.
  • Participate in evaluation, audit and standard setting within the organisation.
