We are seeking a Registered Building Control Technical Manager to lead our Building Control team. The legislative landscape is changing and in this important role, you will manage and develop the team to ensure a safe built environment for residents and businesses within West Lancashire. You will also be the Council's technical lead in further implementing the new building safety regime. You will bring expertise and competence in the building regulations and associated legislation, along with the ability to lead and develop our skilled team. Your management skills will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing our reputation while driving innovation and improvements.

Your Role! As Building Control Technical Manager, you will lead the technical delivery of the Council’s Building Control service. Your responsibilities include:

  • Managing a team of professionals, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Translating regulations and statutory requirements into practical working practices recognised by the Building Safety Regulator.
  • Providing expert technical advice to senior managers, elected members, developers, businesses, and the community.
  • Making decisions on service provision and implementing changes to meet evolving needs.
  • Overseeing resources, including databases and technical systems.
  • Handling frequent changes in priorities and deadlines for yourself and your team.
  • Conducting site inspections, managing associated risks, and ensuring health and safety compliance.
  • Acting as the Council’s technical expert in Building Control, maintaining high professional standards and influencing best practice.

About You! We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional who can lead and innovate within Building Control. You should have:

  • Qualifications & Expertise: Recognised technical qualifications in Building Control or a related discipline. Extensive knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and management skills to supervise a team of professionals. Ability to apply creativity and innovation in implementing regulatory requirements. Excellent communication and diplomacy skills for engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience: Proven track record of managing complex technical services and making strategic decisions. Experience in handling contentious issues with tact and professionalism.
  • Other Requirements: Ability to work under pressure with changing priorities. Willingness to conduct site inspections and manage associated risks. Commitment to health & safety and equality standards.
