Your Role! As a Planning Officer in the Development Management team you will:

  • Assist in the efficient and effective day to day delivery of the Council’s planning functions within the Development Management service;
  • Manage a caseload of planning applications, pre-application enquiries, listed building consent applications, advertisement consent applications, discharge of condition applications etc, ensuring that they are dealt with in accordance with agreed performance targets;
  • Undertake site visits to assess the impacts of proposed development;
  • Attend meetings to discuss matters relating to your caseload;
  • Prepare written reports for decision under delegated authority and by the Council's Planning Committee;
  • Assist in investigations into breaches of planning control.

About You! The ideal candidate will:

  • Be hard-working and self-motivated with the ability to take initiative;
  • Be articulate in spoken and written communication;
  • Be a team player and adept at working alone;
  • Have a strong customer service focus;
  • Have a background in town planning or a related discipline (previous experience in Development Management is desirable but the post is also suitable for a graduate or other professional looking to develop their career);
  • Be willing to learn.
