Mixed practice vet required for our independent practice in Cumbria. We have an experienced team of vets with certificate holders in medicine, surgery and imaging. We have two Vet GDP mentors covering both large and small animals, with experience of mentoring new graduates throughout the development phase. We also have a friendly team of vet nurses, student vet nurses and animal nursing assistants, making for a supportive working and on-call environment and social scene outside work. We have regular in-house Vet GDP and clinical governance meetings.
The Role: A mixed practitioner looking to experience all aspects of our busy and thriving two-centre independent mixed practice. West Lakeland Vets offers a wide variety of clinical case load, with support available at all times especially when on call. There are always two vets and a nurse on call and out-of-hours phones are answered and filtered by our own nurse team.
Successful Candidate: Our ideal candidate would be a team player with good communication skills and a caring nature. Experience would be an advantage but we are keen for new graduates to apply for this role too. Experience or an interest in mixed practice would be essential for this role, although we would encourage candidates with a passion and focus on an area of clinical interest.
The Package: Our package includes an above average SPVS salary along with VDS, RCVS subs, car provided and 4 days CPD with a £1000 allowance which is doubled for those wishing to engage in certificate study. Our standard working week is 4.5 days with additional time off after a weekend on call. Our rota is a 1.5 in eight with one night on per week. We offer flexible working options including part-time working and additional holidays can be taken as unpaid leave. We offer a salary package of between £35,000 - £60,000, with genuine long term prospects in this independent practice.
Location: We are based in West Cumbria, between the coast and the Lake District, an area offering endless outdoor activities with fells, lakes and beaches all in easy reach. The large animal work takes us from lowland beef, sheep and dairy farms along the coast, to the extensive upland farms of the western valleys.
