We are recruiting for an HGV or LGV Instructor/Trainer to work at Ferguson Transport & Shipping in Fort William. The role could be delivered on a full or part-time basis with relocation assistance in the form of temporary chalet accommodation considered for the right applicant.

The main purpose of the role is to lead on the development and delivery of training programmes to our HGV Drivers (approximately 45) and Shunter/Trainee Drivers. Ferguson Transport & Shipping has driver hubs in Fort William (Head Office), Grangemouth, Methil, Inverness, Invergordon, Isle of Skye and Kishorn, and travelling to other depots will be facilitated by use of a company car.
About you:
- Previous experience in a similar role or relevant qualification within the road haulage industry or associated training role would be beneficial.
- Minimum 3 years HGV C+E licence and a Certificate of Professional Competence in national Road Haulage Operations is preferred – ongoing training support will be available.
- Knowledge of MS Office.
- Confident, professional manner.

Main Responsibilities (list not exhaustive):
- Apply knowledge through training to ensure all drivers follow company standard operating procedures, improve driving technique, fuel efficiency, and reduce accident rates.
- Keep up to date with DVSA working practices, including Earned Recognition.
- Implement a training programme based on the fuel efficiency principles with a view to reducing the overall fuel consumption of the fleet.
- Set up and maintain the company registration as a training provider with the JAUPT, write, develop and deliver CPC course suitable for the business needs and external parties.
- Work alongside HR and the Transport Managers to recruit HGV Drivers, from reviewing applications to interview and driver assessments.
- Assist with accident/incident investigation and report writing.
- Work/train towards being able to conduct a programme of Behaviour Based Safety Training with ADR training provider.
- Support the EU & RTWTD Analyst responsible for tachograph analysis and managing driver’s hours.
- Write and develop internal training programmes, with the support of Transport Office staff and Human Resources, to suit individual progression plans and the needs of the business – including HGV driver training, forklift, plant and machinery (where deemed competent).
