Job Description
The School of Construction is looking for a Practical Instructor to support our students with practical lessons in Plumbing and Gas. This is an exciting opportunity for a current Plumber or Gas Engineer experienced in industry to work full time in an educational setting and share knowledge and skills with the next generation.
This is a hands-on role in our workshops delivering practical lessons and giving support to lecturers by tracking and assessing students’ progress, maintaining student portfolios to the required standard for their qualification and providing feedback and guidance to support and reinforce their learning. If you have a real flair for passing your knowledge on to others, a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to act as a role model, this could be just the job for you.
You will support with the setup and preparation of workshops, assessment areas and resources; working to ensure all equipment and stock is maintained and that agreed Health & Safety and environmental practices are implemented and adhered to. You will be able to assist and assess students practical work and impart your industry experience to further develop our student’s employability skills relevant to their career goals.
The successful candidate should have current industry knowledge in Plumbing and ideally have qualifications to a minimum of level 2. Being gas certified would also be beneficial. You will be supported to further develop your skills and knowledge through working towards a Level 3 teaching qualification and an assessor’s qualification. Future progression can include moving into a teaching role once the relevant qualifications have been achieved.
This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week based at our well-equipped industry specific Hemel Hempstead Campus.
