This is a fixed-term (12-month) full-time post open to qualified nurses interested in pursuing a career in clinical research.

The post holder will undertake a competency-based program working with established multidisciplinary research teams across various disciplines.

The training includes study sessions combined with practice placements to deliver an integrated approach to clinical research training.

The post is funded by the Local Research Network and is a development role, with the opportunity to progress to Band 6 upon achieving all competencies as per development plans.

Prior to the interview, candidates will be invited to a pre-interview Excel-based assessment, scheduled for 14th August via MS Teams. Interviews will be held face-to-face on 18th August. Please ensure access to a computer with these applications.

Clinical activities will be performed under supervision, with increasing autonomy, including:

  1. Attending multidisciplinary team meetings to identify patients eligible for clinical trials.
  2. Assisting with patient recruitment using trial eligibility criteria.
  3. Supporting clinic operations by obtaining results, x-rays, and scans prior to appointments.
  4. Booking investigations as directed by staff and data managers.
  5. Assisting patients with questionnaires related to quality of life and other aspects.
  6. Handling telephone queries from patients and carers with support from the research nurse.
  7. Referring queries to relevant team members as needed.
  8. Administering experimental and unlicensed intravenous investigational medicinal products.
  9. Performing phlebotomy.
  10. Handling, storing, and shipping bloods, histology specimens, and body fluids for research.
  11. Guiding and advocating for patients considering trial participation, including communicating sensitive information and managing emotional responses.
