Be Part of the Story – West Ham United

At West Ham United, our story doesn’t stop at the final whistle. Based at the iconic London Stadium, our Content Team brings the Club to life for millions of supporters around the world — capturing moments, building connection, and setting the pace across digital platforms.

We’re looking for a Social Media Manager to help lead and deliver our social media output, owning daily planning and publishing across Club channels during the week and on matchdays.

The Role

The Social Media Manager will play a key role in leading West Ham United’s social presence across all platforms, driving growth, engagement, and innovation in line with the Club’s identity, values, and ambitions. You’ll be responsible for day-to-day content planning, publishing, and performance optimisation, while contributing to longer-term digital strategy. This is a fast-paced, high-profile role suited to a creative storyteller, organised leader, and football enthusiast who thrives under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and execute a social media strategy aligned with Club objectives and brand voice.
  • Plan, schedule, and publish content across all platforms including Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), Facebook, and WhatsApp Channels.
  • Lead matchday social output, including live updates, behind-the-scenes content, real-time clips, and fan-first storytelling.
  • Work closely with marketing, communications, retail, and partnerships teams to support integrated campaigns.
  • Identify emerging trends, platforms, and technologies, keeping the Club ahead of the game.
  • Ensure content is platform-optimised, accurate, and aligned with best practice.
  • Provide creative oversight and collaborate with in-house and external videographers, designers, and photographers.
  • Manage approvals with senior stakeholders and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Track performance across KPIs including reach, engagement, follower growth, watch-time, and campaign effectiveness.
  • Use data and insight to continually refine strategy and improve supporter experience.
  • Manage and mentor junior members of the social media team.
  • Ensure compliance with Club policies, league regulations, safeguarding obligations, and brand guidelines.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience managing large-scale social media channels, ideally within sport, entertainment, or major brands.
  • Experience delivering high-quality content to tight deadlines.
  • Strong video editing, copywriting, and storytelling skills.
  • A deep understanding of football culture, news cycles, and fan behaviour.
  • Confident using social media analytics tools such as CrowdTangle, Sprout, and native platform insights.
  • Calm, organised, and decisive in high-pressure, high-visibility environments.
  • Skilled in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Safeguarding Commitment

We’re committed to safer recruitment and safeguarding children and adults at risk. This role is subject to enhanced DBS checks.

Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave plus your birthday off
  • Pension and life insurance
  • Healthcare cash scheme
  • Travel season ticket loan
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Priority access to apply for match tickets
  • Discounted season tickets
  • Staff discounts in the club store, café and our official partners products and services
  • Discounted gym membership and onsite fitness room facilities
  • Family friendly leave policies
