Position
Position: Higher Education Lecturer (0.6 FTE)
Salary: Competitive
Contract: 3 days per week, Fixed Term (12 months) – potential to extend hours and (contract -subject to funding)
Location: WHU Foundation, Beckton Office & UEL SportsDock, Docklands Campus

About The Role
West Ham United Foundation, in collaboration with the University of East London (UEL), is looking for a passionate and dedicated Higher Education Lecturer to contribute to the delivery of our innovative BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching & Performance degree programme.
This is a unique opportunity to join a high-profile, socially driven Premier League club foundation to inspire and develop the next generation of sports coaching professionals.
You’ll play a key role in delivering engaging, applied teaching that bridges academic theory and real-world performance environments.
Explore the degree programme: BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching & Performance- responsibilities are scheduled across the following weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Additional teaching/coaching hours may be available subject to demand and candidate availability .
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
Deliver dynamic lectures, workshops, and seminars aligned with industry trends.
Create and assess learning materials that reflect contemporary sports coaching practice.
Offer academic support through tutorials and personalised student feedback.
Contribute to curriculum development and quality assurance across modules.
Student Support & Engagement
Build strong, inclusive relationships with students and provide pastoral support.
Track academic progress and proactively support retention and success.
Encourage participation in placements, coaching activities, and professional development.
Marketing & Recruitment
Support student recruitment by contributing to open days, UCAS events, and outreach.
Work with WHUF and UEL marketing teams to develop promotional content.
Wider Contribution
Undertake CPD to maintain up-to-date knowledge in coaching and performance.
Collaborate with staff at WHUF and UEL to deliver a high-quality, joined-up student experience.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and safeguarding standards.
Requirements
Person Specification:
Qualifications
Postgraduate degree in Sports Coaching, Sports Science, or a related discipline.
Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to gain HEA Fellowship.
Valid First Aid and Safeguarding certifications.
Experience
Experience teaching in Higher or Further Education.
Strong practical background in coaching or sport performance environments.
Demonstrated ability to design inclusive, engaging teaching materials.
Experience working with individuals from diverse communities and backgrounds.
Skills & Attributes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build rapport with students in both group and 1:1 settings.
Strong planning and organisational skills with a focus on delivery quality.
Confident with technology and digital learning platforms (e.g., Moodle).
Resilient, adaptable, and passionate about inclusive education.
Knowledge
Up-to-date expertise in sport coaching and performance.
Awareness of safeguarding, health and safety in education contexts.
Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
