Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support children and young people experiencing Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA). This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students who face barriers to education due to anxiety, emotional wellbeing challenges, mental health needs, or other factors affecting school attendance. You will work from our new Horizon Hub at the front of West Exe School.

The successful candidate will work closely with our young people and their families, teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies to develop supportive and personalised approaches that promote engagement, emotional wellbeing, and successful participation in education with an aim to reintegrate into the mainstream curriculum.

Essential

  • Has experience working with children and young people in educational or support settings.
  • Demonstrates empathy, patience, and resilience when supporting vulnerable students.
  • Understands the impact of anxiety, trauma, and emotional wellbeing on school attendance and learning.
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with students and families.
  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is confident in leading learning activities and interventions independently.
  • Can work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of and training in the AttendFramework
  • Has knowledge or experience in trauma-informed practice
  • Has knowledge or experience in ELSA or Emotional Logic-style interventions
