We are looking to recruit 2 committed and motivated Throughcare and Aftercare Workers to join our team, who would be responsible for supporting young people aged 15 to 26 as they move from care to independence.
As a Throughcare and Aftercare Worker, you will play a key role in fulfilling the Council’s Corporate Parenting responsibilities, providing direct, practical, and emotional support to young people at a critical stage in their lives.
You will:
- Support young people to develop their skills and confidence as they transition from care to independent living
- Provide ongoing support and advice tailored to individual needs
- Work with vulnerable young people, including those experiencing or at risk of homelessness or who are unaccompanied asylum seekers (UASC)
- Collaborate with partner agencies such as housing providers and support services
- Support Supported Carers who are delivering Supported Lodgings placements through our Registered Service
- Contribute to young care leavers achieving positive outcomes in areas such as housing, education, training, and employment
- Build strong, trusting relationships that empower young people to thrive
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with vulnerable young people, ideally those with care experience
- Understands the challenges of transitioning to independent living and approaches practice in a trauma informed way
- Can provide practical support to young people alongside emotional guidance
- Has strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Is flexible, resilient, and able to work both independently and also as part of a team
- Is committed to improving outcomes for young people
This post is considered a Regulated Role with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.
