South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council are two ambitious local authorities working together to provide services to our communities. Our Councils have adopted new, exciting, innovative and forward‑looking corporate strategies setting out our visions and priorities for our unique areas.
To support this work, we are currently seeking to recruit a range of roles covering Principal Project Manager, Project Officer and engineering with potentially multiple positions with salary ranges between Project Officer / Trainer Engineer and Principal Project Managers / Engineer / Surveyor.
You will be confident in leading, planning and controlling several projects at any one time and be able to matrix manage project team members (some externally sourced) to successfully deliver project outcomes. An early priority for the successful candidate will be to develop and embed the Councils’ approach to Project Management.
The team’s annual delivery plan and Capital Delivery Plan has projects that vary from housing refurbishment, car‑parking, coastal protection and waste management. You should be able to demonstrate recent, significant project management experience (e.g. design a brief, procurement, VFM assessments, business cases and report writing) and the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
Your background could vary from RICS (building surveyor), Civil Engineering, CIBSE or CIOB but real‑world experience is just as important. If you join us, you will become part of a highly skilled, motivated and positive team which is determined to give good value for money and a high‑quality experience to our customers.
For an informal discussion please contact Mr Gerry Mills, Capital Programme and Infrastructure Delivery Manager on Gerry.mills@swdevon.gov.uk or 01803 861480.
Closing date: Sunday 10 May 2026. Interviews are expected to be held week commencing Monday 18 May 2026.
