Start Date: September 2026 (opening of the new SEND Resource Base at West Bromwich Collegiate Academy)
The Teacher of the ASC Resource Base will deliver high‑quality, specialist teaching and pastoral support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The role is based at the new Annex of Shireland CBSO Academy while the main school building is completed. The Academy is an oversubscribed secondary school with 805 pupils and a strong commitment to inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with teaching assistants, the SENCO, learning mentors and other staff to support pupils with ASC.
- Collaborate across the trust to develop and enhance resource bases.
- Create and review individual Support Plans for all students.
- Carry out annual reviews for all EHCP pupils with support from the SENCO.
- Support and upskill teachers and teaching assistants in adaptive teaching methods, including trust‑wide CPD.
- Deliver programmes of study from ASdan or a similar life‑skills programme.
- Deliver enrichment activities linked to EHCP outcomes and the wider curriculum.
- Teach small groups of SEN children with complex needs, specifically focusing on EHCP outcomes.
- Liaise with the wider school to provide integration opportunities.
- Communicate regularly with parents and carers, providing term‑ly reviews of progress.
- Deliver personal or medical care where appropriate.
- Prepare risk assessments for pupils who require them, with support from senior leaders.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working and teaching in a specialist setting.
- Experience teaching across key stages.
- Consistently good or outstanding classroom performance.
- Strong understanding of SEN needs, particularly ASC.
- Experience managing and supporting pupils with complex communication needs and autism.
- High expectations of both learning and behaviour.
- Ability to inspire, motivate and enthuse pupils.
- Commitment to raising standards and a drive to learn and improve.
- Willingness to lead initiatives and demonstrate impact.
- Passion to make a difference to others.

Additional Information
All post‑holders will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), including a Children’s Barred List check due to the regulated activity nature of the role.
