We are recruiting for a principal engineer to play a key role in the management of the highway structure assets across West Berkshire. This senior role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a wide range of highway structure activities whether it is reviewing new design proposals or the inspection, assessment and maintenance of existing structures.

The Role

Managing a team of engineers you will provide professional leadership and line management. This role requires a close relationship with the Asset Manager to provide advice on solutions for defective structures found during routine inspection or reacting to accident damage. You will have working knowledge of current standards relating to bridge structural design, assessment, construction and maintenance. In addition you will play a key role in delivering projects to budget and programme as well as helping to develop council policy. If you have excellent communication and management skills and a customer focused approach to service delivery then we would be delighted to hear from you.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • A qualified engineer with a Degree in Civil Engineering and/or significant experience in the procurement, management and delivery of highway structure capital maintenance schemes.
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in engineering design, asset management, and contract administration.
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the capacity to influence and negotiate with a range of individuals and organisations.
  • Proactive and solution-focused, with strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic approach to project delivery.
