West Berkshire Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Public Health Performance and Commissioning Officer to join our Public Health and Wellbeing team. This is a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, and value-for-money public health services that improve outcomes for our local population.
About The Role
The postholder will lead on the commissioning and performance management of a range of public health services, including:
- Public health nursing (0–19 years)
- Integrated sexual health services
- Stop smoking services
- NHS Health Checks
- Cardiovascular disease prevention programmes
You will manage the full commissioning cycle, including specification development, market engagement, contract management, and performance monitoring. The role also involves financial oversight of public health grant‑funded contracts, including forecasting, auditing, and reporting. You will work closely with neighbouring authorities, commissioned providers, and system partners to ensure equitable access and continuous improvement of services.
About You
- Is educated to degree level or has equivalent experience
- Holds a qualification or has experience in business, accountancy, or financial management
- Is registered (or willing to work towards registration) with the UK Public Health Register
- Has experience in commissioning, financial management, and partnership working
- Demonstrates excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills
- Has a strong understanding of public health principles and the health and care system
