About the role
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate children's nurse or midwife to join the West and North London ICB Child Death Review team. This is a highly sensitive and emotionally demanding role, providing skilled coordination and support following the death of a baby, child or young person. The post holder will meet bereaved parents and families, sometimes in their homes, and will offer a consistent, accessible point of contact throughout the child death review process. You will communicate complex and potentially distressing information with empathy, clarity and professional sensitivity. You will help families navigate what happens after their child has died, ensure their questions and views are heard, and signpost them to bereavement, practical, advocacy and other specialist support. You will also provide feedback at appropriate stages and advocate for the family's voice within the child death review process. About the role Act as a key worker or named contact for bereaved families, providing compassionate, individualised support. Coordinate Child Death Review Meetings and contribute to Joint Agency Responses and Child Death Overview Panel processes. Gather and interpret complex information from health, local authority, police, coroner and other partner agencies
You will be a Registered Children's Nurse or Registered Midwife with current NMC registration with substantial experience of working in the NHS with children and families in a specialist setting, such as acute paediatrics, neonatal or maternity care, hospice care, health visiting, school nursing or community services. Experience of the child death review procedures and of supporting children and families through grief, bereavement or other highly distressing circumstances is particularly relevant. Emotional resilience is essential. The role involves regular exposure to traumatic information and direct contact with families at an exceptionally difficult time. You will need to balance warmth and compassion with professional boundaries, confidentiality, safeguarding responsibilities and attention to your own wellbeing. Working closely with the Senior Manager Nurse, Designated Lead Nurse and Designated Doctor for Child Death Review, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to bereaved families while helping multi-agency professionals learn from every child's death and improve services for children and young people. If you are a compassionate and experienced practitioner who can combine sensitive family support with effective multi-agency coordination, we would welcome your application.
