About West Airdrie Painters
At West Airdrie Painters, we believe in empowering our team members to take ownership of their work while providing a supportive, transparent, and safe environment. We specialize in residential and commercial painting. Our culture is built on the pillars of independence, transparency, and high quality. We prioritise our painters' safety above all else; if a site ever feels unsafe, our team is encouraged to prioritise their well-being immediately.
As a Summer Painter with SWP, you will work in a fast-paced, outdoor environment as part of a dedicated two or three-person crew. This role is designed for individuals who are self-motivated and eager to manage their own job sites after completing our comprehensive training program.
Core Responsibilities
- Painting Operations: Execute high-quality interior and exterior painting projects
- Ladder Work: Safely operate and work on ladders
- Marketing & Networking: Kick off every project by delivering flyers to neighbouring houses and engaging in friendly conversation with community members.
- Site Management: Oversee assigned job sites independently, following clear instruction sheets to complete projects efficiently.
- Equipment Maintenance: Take personal responsibility for the care of issued paintbrushes; 2 brushes are provided at the start, with replacements available monthly if properly maintained.
- Safety Compliance: Attend bi-weekly safety briefings on-site and strictly adhere to all safety protocols.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking motivated individuals who are ready to take on a physically active and rewarding summer challenge. To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualities and meet these specific requirements:
- Self-Motivated & Goal-Oriented: You are someone who takes initiative, sets personal financial goals, and strives to reach them through hard work.
- Independent Worker: You are comfortable overseeing your own job sites and following clear instructions to complete projects with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable with Heights: Since 70% of our work is exterior, you must be comfortable working on ladders ranging from 10ft to 30ft.
- Reliable & Punctual: You can commit to a typical schedule of Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm, and are willing to adapt if weather delays require weekend work to stay on track.
- Strong Communicator: You are friendly and professional, whether you are chatting with neighbours while delivering flyers or giving and receiving feedback during our bi-weekly meetings.
- Efficiency-Driven: Because pay is based on piecework, we are looking for people who want to work hard and work smart to maximise their earnings.
- Team Player: You enjoy working closely with a small crew of 1–2 others throughout the entire summer.
Schedule & Environment
May – August. Typically Monday to Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, with some variation based on job completion. If poor weather affects 2+ days in a week, you may have the option to work Saturday and Sunday to meet your earning goals. The first two weeks are a test of ability, where you must meet or beat established time budgets.
Requirements
- Previous experience is preferred but not required; full training is provided.
- Must have a vehicle with a Class 5 licence; ability to carry ladders is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Performance-Based Earnings: We use a piecework system—the harder and more efficiently you work, the more you make.
- Wage Increases: Raises are possible within the first 2 weeks based on increased responsibility (e.g., collecting payments or moving ladders).
- Tips: Exceptional service frequently leads to client tips; top painters have earned $100+ tips in the past.
- Referral Bonus: Refer a friend and receive a bonus on your first cheque if they are hired; you can also request to work on the same crew.
- Company Events: Includes a fun, group orientation day.
