Job Opportunity: Trainee Asset Information Technician

Do you have experience using GIS software? Are you looking for a new job with fantastic career and development opportunities? If so, we have a great opportunity in our Asset Information Management Team, part of Engineering and Asset Management, as a Trainee Asset Information Technician.

What you\’ll do

As a Wessex Water Trainee Asset Information Technician, your role will involve creating, maintaining, supporting, and documenting wastewater and water supply assets on the corporate GIS database, using ESRI Arc GIS. This includes editing records, digitising and entering tabular information, and conducting topological and visual checks for completeness. Records sources include as-laid drawings, asset surveys, and field sketches.

Daily tasks include editing live GIS networks with data from the field and engineering drawings. Attention to detail and accuracy are essential. You will liaise with staff to ensure data quality and may provide hard copy maps and reports.

This is an office-based role at our Operations Centre in Bath or our Trowbridge Office at Kennet Way. During your 6-month probation, training will be a mix of face-to-face and online. Once you are able to work independently, flexible working options, including up to 2 days per week at home, are available.

What you\’ll need

We seek a highly organised individual with excellent attention to detail. You should be self-motivated, proactive, able to work under moderate supervision, and confident in communicating with colleagues. Experience in the following is beneficial but full training will be provided:

  • Microsoft Excel, Access, and SQL query tools
  • Using ESRI ArcGIS software
