We have an exciting opportunity for a Process Scientist to work as part of our Western Science team, ensuring we meet environmental compliance standards for our water recycling centres.

This role involves a mixture of office and field-based work. The role is primarily based in Yeovil and the surrounding South Somerset and North Dorset areas and will involve travel across the wider Wessex Water region.

What you\'ll do

Our Scientists help ensure that we comply with all the regulatory requirements and that there is no detrimental impact on the environment through our operations.

You will join the Western Science team, taking responsibility for ensuring water recycling compliance and process performance with your local operations team. In addition, there will be regular engagement with colleagues across the wider business on a variety of interesting projects.

As a Process Scientist, you will ensure compliance with quality standards at water recycling centres, including numerical, descriptive and flow permits. You will plan and install measures to improve quality and lead initiatives to reduce operational costs.

Additionally, you will be involved in:

  • monitoring and optimising the effectiveness of sewage treatment processes
  • providingprocess support in urgent operational issues
  • providing technicalsupport to operational staff to protect and maintain quality
  • innovating new operational practices
  • collaborating with engineering and construction colleagues to support the installation and commissioning of new plant to meet tighter regulatory requirements
  • liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including the Environment Agency.

What you\'ll need

You will need to be an experienced Process Scientist who has experience monitoring and optimising processes to meet regulatory permits.

You will understand the importance of environmental regulationsand have a methodical and analytical approach to your work. You will also act as a role model for health and safety.

Previous water industry experience would be ideal. However, we know that there are great waste treatment scientists who work in other sectors, such as engineering, manufacturing, and environmental companies, who could transfer their process science experience into the water industry.

You are going to be joining a very welcoming and supportive team. To build on this, you\'ll need to be able to build professional and supportive relationships with your fellow colleagues, as well as being able to confidently engage and influence various internal stakeholders.

In addition, you will have:

  • a degree or equivalent level of experience in a science, environmental or engineering subject
  • sound knowledge of environmental permittingand wastewater treatment processes
  • COSHH experience would be highly desirable
  • IT literacy
  • data analysis skills – comfortable using Microsoft Excel to an intermediate level
  • a valid full UK driving licence.

Additionally, this role can be a trainee opportunity, available for the right candidate.
