As an Operations Manager within our Engineering and Technology department, you will lead technical teams that manage operational technology, electrical safety compliance, and technical staff competence and contribute to electrical engineering projects. This role will require a strong technical background in electrical engineering. You will be a registered Chartered Electrical Engineer and will ensure electrical systems are compliant with health, safety and environmental regulations.

What you'll do

  • Lead and manage Operational Technology and Electrical Engineering teams, ensuring efficient and effective day-to-day operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical safety and regulatory standards, including Electrical Safety Rules, British Standards and the Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Provide technical sign-off of electrical capital maintenance and enhancement projects, from design through to delivery, ensuring they meet TOTEX, quality, and time objectives.
  • Fulfil duties of a Senior Electrical Engineer as appointed under the organisation's electrical safety rules, holding ultimate responsibility for electrical systems, compliance and staff competence.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to teams across various operational areas, focusing on power systems and operational technology.
  • Conduct safety audits and manage a programme of inspections of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Lead investigations into electrical failures and incidents, identifying corrective and preventative actions.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic objectives related to operational technology and electrical engineering.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies, DNOs, contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the company's IET-accredited professional development scheme and oversee the delivery of a mentoring programme for developing engineers.

What you'll need

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional body, eg, the IET.
  • Degree-level qualification in an electrical or control system engineering discipline.
  • Experienced in the management of electrical systems, with a focus on regulatory compliance and staff competence.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical safety regulations, including the Electricity at Work Regulations and relevant industry standards.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to identify risks, implement mitigation strategies and ensure compliance across all electrical systems.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
  • Previous experience in the water, utilities or infrastructure sectors.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, automation, and other operational technologies.
  • Good communication skills, ensuring language is tailored for the intended audience.
  • Technical report writing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage challenging operational scenarios.
