Have you completed a mechanical or dual skilled apprenticeship, or do you have a formal mechanical-based qualification? Do you enjoy a practical, hands-on role which involves identifying root cause of failure of our equipment and providing engineering solutions to enable a timely and cost-effective repair? Would you like to complete full overhauls and refurbishment of complex mechanical equipment using your skills to re-engineer where possible? If so, we have a great opportunity for you to join our Avonmouth team as a Mechanical Technician., Joining our friendly and supportive Electrical mechanical and instrumentational team, you will help maintain and repair our equipment on the largest sewage treatment works in our business, in order to maintain the highest standards for our customers.

This is a hands-on role that will see you carrying out maintenance and repair work across a large variation of equipment. This will include pinpointing faults and ensuring you understand the root cause of failure. You will assist in making local decisions and suggest improvements to poor performing plant.

You will take full ownership of jobs through to successful resolution and completion.

You will have the opportunity to learn and further develop your mechanical skills and knowledge. Within the business area there is the opportunity to develop skills to further support the team such as becoming dual skilled and ATEX Training.

This role is based at our Avonmouth site, working Monday to Friday, you will also be part of a standby rota within the team.

You will enjoy a hands-on based role repairing and maintaining a wide range of wastewater treatment and processing equipment.

You will need to have:

  • sound technical knowledge

  • experience repairing/maintaining gear boxes, pump, compactors and macerators and refurbishment of inlet screens

  • a relevant City and Guilds mechanical qualification

  • Experience working on a large industrial site

  • Understanding and experience of working on Atex equipment

  • completed an apprenticeship or formal mechanical training

  • a can-do attitude and flexible approach to work

  • a good knowledge of health and safety

  • the ability to be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Any previous experience working in the water industry in an EM&I role is desirable but not essential.
