Do you have a background in Civil Engineering? Have you got an understanding of CDM Regulations? If so, we have a great opportunity for you as a Design Engineer based within an award-winning company.
What you\’ll do
As a Design Engineer, you will be working in our Mainlaying and Small Schemes team within our Engineering and asset management department. You will be part of a project team to lead the delivery of engineering solutions.
You will take responsibility for the technical and administrative aspects of several projects to ensure they are delivered within agreed budgets and timescales, as well as providing guidance to other members of the project team and expertise in areas of specialist knowledge and experience.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
- leading small/medium and large-sized projects
- specifying and managing surveys involving third-party contractors as appropriate (eg, ground and geochemical investigations, topographic surveys, pump tests and condition surveys)
- requesting E3MP, where responsible for the technical aspects of a project, and addressing environmental actions as specified in E3MP (in conjunction with others)
- ensuring that environmental actions as specified in E3MP are addressed
- working in conjunction with other areas of the business to ensure a compliant delivery (Geotechnical and Environmental teams)
- considering buildability issues during design and outlining design drawings (including site layouts, hydraulic profile, P & ID, SLD and process flow diagrams)
- producing detail drawings and specifications, as well as snagging lists for construction teams, as built drawings/plans, relevant test certificates, etc
- preparing design fee proposals and scheme programmes
- ensuring compliance with Construction and Design Management Regulations (CDM)
- presenting designs to stakeholders with sufficient skill to ensure approval of what may be controversial issues.
What you\’ll need
You will be a self-motivated individual with the ability to organise, plan and deliver the team\’s outputs to meet key target dates. It is essential that you are an effective and clear communicator at all levels.
In addition, you will have:
- proven experience in designing water mains infrastructure (desirable)
- proven experience in the utilities industry (desirable)
- an understanding of operational infrastructure
- a HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent (preferred but not essential)
- business and commercial awareness
- the ability to follow technical standards within design
- a good knowledge and understanding of CDM regulations and the designer\’s role.
