Wessex Internet is an award-winning broadband provider transforming rural connectivity across the South West. As we expand into the New Forest, Wiltshire, and South & West Dorset, we’re looking for skilled Civils Operatives to join our growing in-house team.
You’ll be hands-on with trenchless technology (Mole Plough and Directional Drilling), operating a mix of plant and machinery across a wide range of terrain. This role is ideal for someone who wants a long-term opportunity, enjoys physical outdoor work, and is ready to be part of a close-knit team delivering a vital service to rural communities.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Operate a variety of plant (e.g., 2.7-ton Kubota diggers) for fibre installs, manholes, and telecoms cabinets.
- Support mole plough and directional drilling operations for fast, trenchless installs.
- Carry out daily checks and basic maintenance of plant.
- Communicate site challenges to Team Leaders to help keep work on track.
- Always uphold safe working practices and report any health & safety concerns.
- Assist in mentoring and guiding junior team members.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience in civils, utilities, groundwork, or rural infrastructure.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong work ethic and happy working in all weather.
- Confident with plant and machinery (tickets a bonus, but not essential).
- Experience with excavation, ducting, and/or pipe/cable laying preferred.
- Awareness of working on agricultural land or in remote environments.
- A team player with a proactive, solution-driven approach.
Desirable but not essential:
- B&E trailer license
- CSCS
- Street Works / Cable Avoidance (CAT & Genny)
