Wessex Internet is an award-winning, fast-growing broadband provider transforming rural connectivity across the Southwest. As we continue to scale our full-fibre network, we are seeking a Managing Director of Construction to lead our in-house network build function and ensure delivery performance, operational efficiency, and capability keep pace with our growth.
In this fast-paced, execution-critical role, you will be accountable for end-to-end network construction, operational performance, and workforce leadership. You will provide strong, decisive leadership, inspiring and motivating a large direct labour workforce to deliver safely, on time, to specification, and within budget.
Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the Executive Team, you will translate strategy into clear, actionable plans, aligning construction delivery with commercial, financial, and technology objectives. You will develop and empower your teams, optimise processes, and drive structures that ensure predictable, scalable, and efficient delivery as volumes and market conditions evolve.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Leading all construction delivery activity across the network build programme
- Ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, to specification, and within budget
- Translating business growth strategy into practical construction and resource plans
- Building operational structures, processes, and leadership capability to support expansion
- Driving performance management through KPIs, reporting, and operational governance
- Maintaining strong capital discipline, productivity, and fleet/resource utilisation
- Leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance predictability and efficiency
- Collaborating closely with Commercial, Finance, Planning, Technology, and Customer Operations teams
What We’re Looking For
- Senior leadership experience in infrastructure, utilities, telecoms, or large-scale construction delivery
- Proven track record delivering complex programmes in high-pace, capital-intensive environments
- Experience scaling operational teams and improving delivery performance
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including CapEx oversight
- Ability to lead and motivate dispersed, multi-disciplinary teams
- A pragmatic, hands-on leadership style with a focus on execution and accountability
- Confident communicator, comfortable operating at Executive and Board level
