We're looking for an experienced
Rural Civils Team Leader to join our Special Projects team.
Whether your background is in civil engineering, utilities, telecoms, construction or agriculture, if you're passionate about leading people, operating specialist machinery and solving problems in challenging rural environments, we'd love to hear from you.
This is a hands‑on leadership role where you'll oversee teams delivering fibre infrastructure across farmland, private land and rural communities using specialist trenchless equipment and excavation machinery.

- What you’ll be doing
As a Rural Civils Team Leader, you’ll lead teams of 2–4 Civils Operatives, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard while maintaining excellent relationships with landowners and customers.
- You’ll be responsible for
- Leading, motivating and developing a team of Civils Operatives to deliver rural fibre infrastructure projects safely and efficiently.
- Operating and overseeing specialist excavation and trenchless machinery, ensuring works are completed to a high standard.
- Planning daily activities, carrying out site surveys and resolving on‑site challenges to keep projects on track.
- Building positive relationships with landowners, customers and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
- Promoting a strong Health & Safety culture through toolbox talks, quality checks and compliance with company and industry standards.
- Monitoring plant, vehicles and equipment, coordinating maintenance and ensuring all site documentation is completed accurately.
- Coaching team members, identifying training needs and supporting continuous improvement across the team.
- What we’re looking for
- Previous experience in civils, utilities, telecoms, construction, agricultural engineering or a similar field, with a strong understanding of working in outdoor environments, delivering infrastructure projects and operating safely in accordance with industry standards and best practice.
- Experience operating excavation machinery or agricultural equipment, with the confidence to work safely across varied rural terrain while maintaining machinery, adapting to changing ground conditions and delivering work to a high standard.
- Natural leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, coach and develop others while creating a positive, accountable and safety‑focused team culture.
Able to lead by example, make confident decisions and support team members to achieve high standards of performance.
- Knowledge of excavation works, cable avoidance and interpreting utility/service drawings, with the ability to safely plan and execute works while identifying underground services, mitigating risk and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safe digging practices.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure, assessing risks, identifying practical solutions and responding quickly to changing site conditions to minimise delays while maintaining safety, quality and productivity.
Strong communication skills and confidence building relationships with customers and landowners.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively, managing multiple tasks, coordinating teams and resources, and ensuring projects are delivered efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
