At Wessex Internet, we're on a mission to bring fast, reliable full-fibre broadband to rural communities that have traditionally been overlooked by larger providers.

We design, build and operate our own network, connecting homes and businesses across Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and beyond. As a growing business, we're proud of the difference our work makes to the communities we serve.

We're now looking for an experienced Fibre Splicing Engineer to join our Construction team and help keep our network connected, reliable and performing at its best.

Working across our network build regions, you'll carry out fibre splicing on both new and existing infrastructure, ensuring connections are completed to a high standard and the network operates efficiently. You'll also help diagnose and resolve network faults, restore services when equipment is damaged and provide emergency out-of-hours support as part of an on‑call rota.

This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with strong fibre splicing experience who takes pride in the quality of their work, can organise their own workload and enjoys working both independently and as part of a team.

What do we offer our Fibre Splicing Engineers:

  • A starting salary between £30,000 - £36,000 dependent on experience.
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell up to 5 days.
  • Private medical insurance & life assurance.
  • Cycle to Work & Tech purchase schemes.
  • Enhanced family leave policies.
  • Staff broadband discount (75%).
  • High street discounts on 100+ brands.
  • Summer & Christmas team socials.
  • Career development opportunities - Whether you want to lead a team or learn new skills, we'll support your growth in our fast-moving business.

What You'll Be Doing as Fibre Splicing Engineer:

  • Carrying out fibre splicing within new and existing splice enclosures to maintain optimal network performance.
  • Working with the surveying team to prioritise workloads, coordinate activities and achieve individual and team KPIs.
  • Diagnosing network faults, restoring services and responding to emergency network breaks to minimise customer disruption.
  • Providing out-of-hours support through an evening and weekend on-call rota, with overtime and additional on-call payments available where agreed with your manager.
  • Accessing rural locations, communicating professionally with landowners and working across varied environments to complete splicing activities.
  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship and ensuring compliance with all Health & Safety requirements.

What We're Looking From Our Next Fibre Splicing Engineer:

  • Strong, demonstrable fibre splicing experience, with the ability to complete approximately 150–200 splices per day when required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, particularly when dealing with landowners.
  • A willingness to use, or learn how to use, OTDR testing equipment.
  • The ability to work independently, use initiative and organise workloads effectively.
  • A proactive approach to learning new skills and adapting to changing processes.
  • A full UK driving licence held for at least 12 months.
