The role:

This role is key to achieving success within our Data Excellence pillar of our Data Strategy which has a primary objective of getting the right data, to the right people, at the right time by developing our flexible data architecture. You’ll be a key member of the team that builds data artefacts to support our data driven culture. You’ll bring together the data from different operational systems to build the data artefacts to create a data integration layer. A deep knowledge of Azure's data platform is crucial, along with a collaborative approach as you’ll have the opportunity to direct more inexperienced members of the team. The role requires excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, along with proficiency in Python, PySpark and SQL; essential for data manipulation and query development.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Developing, maintaining and operating the routines to ingest the data from across the Wesleyan estate to form single source of data that enables a data driven culture
  • Designing and implementing scalable and secure data processing pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse and other Azure services.
  • Managing and optimising data storage using Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
  • Developing data models and maintaining data architecture to support data analytics and business intelligence reporting.
  • Ensuring data quality and consistency through data cleaning, transformation, and integration processes.
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting data-related issues within the Azure environment to maintain high availability and performance.
  • Collaborating with data scientists, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement appropriate data solutions.

We’re looking for:

  • Demonstrable experience in a data, analytics or information management discipline
  • Experience of designing and implementing data solutions on Azure utilising Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL Database and Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL is essential.
  • Experience with RDBMS.
  • Experience using Azure Data Lake
  • Hands on experience working with BI tools (Power Bi, Tableau or similar).
