This role leads urgent pastoral care responses and coordinates bereavement support, including conducting wake and funeral services. You will provide compassionate pastoral visits to the sick and homebound, collaborate with ministry teams, and contribute to staff activities to support community well-being.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to bereavement matters by coordinating and conducting wake and funeral services, including interment of ashes and ash scattering.
- Deliver pastoral visits and follow-up care to individuals who are sick, hospitalized, in nursing homes, or homebound.
- Design and facilitate pastoral care training programs to equip ministry volunteers and staff.
- Provide pastoral oversight and support as needed to ensure effective care delivery.
- Guide and support the ministry coordinator to foster teamwork and achieve ministry goals.
- Collaborate with the Wesley Glowing Years Ministry (WGYM) team to develop and implement programs that equip and care for seniors.
- Actively participate in Wesley Methodist Church’s staff meetings, training sessions, weekly services, and events to contribute to organizational growth and community engagement.
Required competencies and certifications
- Relevant theological studies, qualifications, and/or experience in pastoral care roles.
- Experience working in a Church, Nursing Home, Hospice, or Parachurch organization.
- Proven pastoral care experience including visiting the sick and dying, managing bereavement support, and caring for the elderly.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, and execute tasks effectively with strong people management and relational skills.
