The role: As an Engineering Manager you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will lead the planning, coordination and integration of multi-discipline engineering on complex, high-impact projects. You’ll help accelerate advanced reactor deployment and modern nuclear facilities — work that strengthens national security, supports energy resilience and advances your leadership career through exposure to cutting-edge engineering challenges.
Day-to-day, you’ll be expected to:
- Lead multi-discipline engineering planning, integration and delivery to time, cost and quality.
- Set technical direction, manage interfaces and assure design, safety and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with reactor vendors, supply chain and internal stakeholders to solve complex problems.
- Manage risks, change control and configuration to maintain scope, schedule and quality baselines.
- Coach engineers and cultivate a high-performance, inclusive team culture.
This is a 37-hour role based at any of our main UK locations. Hybrid working patterns are available, and travel to other Babcock and customer sites will be expected (with regular travel to Warrington, Bristol and Manchester).
Essential experience of the Engineering Manager:
- Direct experience in small modular, advanced modular or modular reactor development (SMR/AMR).
- Senior-level engineering/technical leadership within complex projects.
- Background with reactor vendors or nuclear engineering organisations.
- Strong understanding of nuclear technologies, decommissioning or fuel-cycle engineering.
- Demonstrable experience of the UK regulatory licensing process and working within the UK regulatory regime.
Qualifications for the Engineering Manager:
- Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) in relevant engineering discipline, with significant demonstrable experience.
- Chartered Engineer status.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain a Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
