If you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Production Engineer within Babcock Vehicle Engineering, helping to design, implement and optimise manufacturing processes that support high‑quality, efficient vehicle production. This role is based on site in Walsall and offers the opportunity to lead engineering activity within a highly regulated and technically demanding production environment.
As a Senior Production Engineer, you’ll be responsible for shaping and improving production processes across the manufacturing lifecycle. You’ll provide technical leadership, manage change within production planning, and support both production and project teams to deliver safe, efficient and high‑quality outcomes. You’ll also take responsibility for managing the engineering function and leading a small team of engineers, ensuring standards, performance and continuous improvement remain central to everything you do.
Day‑to‑day responsibilities:
- Designing, implementing and optimising manufacturing and production processes within an automotive environment.
- Leading the engineering function, providing direction, technical support and guidance to engineers.
- Supporting project and production teams with process development, accurate costings and product improvement initiatives.
- Identifying and delivering process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency, quality and safety.
- Managing change control within production planning and ensuring adherence to engineering standards and specifications.
- Evaluating technical and operational risks and implementing effective mitigation actions.
This is a full‑time, permanent role, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Essential experience:
- Proven experience in automotive manufacturing or a related production environment.
- Strong background in lean manufacturing, process optimisation and quality systems.
- Experience working with CAD software and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to support and influence production and project teams.
Qualifications:
- Qualification in Mechanical, Industrial, Automotive, or Manufacturing Engineering (or related field) or equivalent Industrial Experience.
