The role:

As an Aircraft Mechanical Technician, you’ll work on a wide variety of aircraft types, contributing to maintenance, storage, and disposal programmes that support operational capability and sustainability. It is a highly practical role that broadens your experience, strengthens your technical expertise, and offers long-term development within defence, aerospace and engineering.

Day-to-day you’ll be required to:

  • Preparing fixed wing aircraft and helicopters for storage in line with engineering and safety standards
  • Carrying out in-storage maintenance across a wide range of air platforms
  • Preparing aircraft for sale, reuse, or responsible disposal
  • Controlling quality assurance activities and supporting health and safety compliance
  • Working collaboratively with engineering, quality, and safety colleagues to ensure best practice

Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time. The role is based onsite at RAF Shawbury, working 38 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 17:00, and Friday 08:00 to 15:00.

Essential experience of the Aircraft Mechanical Technician:

  • Demonstrable experience working within an aviation engineering environment
  • Experience maintaining or supporting multiple aircraft types
  • Proven background in quality assurance and health and safety practices

Qualifications for the Mechanical Technician:

  • Recognised trade certification
  • Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
