The role
As a Pipe Fitter, you’ll play a vital role in delivering some of the UK’s most important defence and marine engineering programmes. Your expertise will help bring the Type 31 / Inspiration Class frigates to life—ships that will serve the Royal Navy for decades to come. This is hands‑on engineering with purpose. You’ll work with high‑integrity pipe systems, contribute to complex shipbuilding operations, and develop your career across the full spectrum of defence, aerospace and engineering projects. Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Fabricate, install and assemble a variety of marine‑grade pipe systems.
- Prepare pipework through cutting, bending, forming and alignment.
- Install systems such as fuel, water, fire main, hydraulics and HVAC onboard vessels.
- Interpret drawings, isometrics and technical specifications with accuracy.
- Work safely in shipyard environments, including confined spaces and at height.
This is a full‑time position working 36 hours per week, based on site at Rosyth.
Essential experience
- Experience in pipe fabrication, pipe fitting or TIG pipe welding within shipbuilding, marine engineering, oil and gas or heavy engineering.
- Strong understanding of pipework installation, fabrication and welding standards.
- Ability to work confidently from drawings and to tight tolerances.
- Comfortable working in workshop and onboard vessel environments.
- Strong teamwork, communication and problem‑solving skills.
Qualifications
- Recognised Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Fabrication, Pipefitting, Welding or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
