The role
As a Mechanical Engineering Capability Lead, you'll have a role that is out of the ordinary. You'll take ownership of how our pipe and mechanical workforce is developed, deployed and future-proofed at Rosyth. This is a highly influential role where your expertise will directly shape workforce capability, operational performance and long-term skills sustainability.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Leading the deployment and utilisation of pipe and mechanical resources across programmes to meet current and future demand.
- Acting as the site Subject Matter Expert for mechanical and pipe trades, maintaining capability, standards and compliance.
- Developing and owning the trade competency framework in collaboration with learning, safety and engineering teams.
- Supporting early careers planning by identifying future apprentice and trainee requirements aligned to business strategy.
- Partnering with senior stakeholders to drive workforce planning, performance and continuous improvement.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at Rosyth.
Essential experience:
- Proven experience leading and managing teams within an engineering or industrial environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical or pipe trades and their interaction with engineering, quality and safety functions.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in senior leadership environments, influencing and communicating with confidence.
- Excellent people management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Highly developed organisation and prioritisation capabilities in complex operational settings.
Qualifications:
- Time served in a relevant mechanical or pipe trade, with extensive experience in an engineering or production environment.
- Leadership, management or assessor qualifications would be an advantage.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
