The role
As a Senior Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Engineer (EC&I), you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You are trusted with complex technical challenges, given real ownership of engineering decisions, and supported to grow your professional capability within a highly regulated environment. The experience you gain here strengthens your technical credibility and accelerates your career development in the defence, aerospace and engineering sector.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Develop control, electrical and instrumentation designs for safety‑related and safety‑critical systems within a nuclear environment
- Collaborate closely with engineering disciplines, safety case teams, customers and the supply chain to resolve complex design challenges
- Apply relevant procedures, legislation, codes and standards to ensure robust, compliant engineering solutions
- Support product safety assessments and act as a technical interface with internal and external stakeholders
- Drive continuous improvement across the design lifecycle to enhance quality, efficiency and engineering excellence
This is a full‑time role working 37 hours per week. The role can be based at one of Cavendish Nuclear’s key locations including Warrington (Cheshire), Leicester (Leicestershire), Humberside (East Yorkshire), Cumbria (Westlakes), Preston (Lancashire), Newbury (Berkshire) or Bristol. Hybrid working patterns are available, with an expectation of three days per week on site.
Essential experience of the Senior EC&I Engineer:
- Proven experience delivering control, electrical and instrumentation safety system design in a highly regulated environment
- Strong working knowledge of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards
- Experience of the nuclear functional safety lifecycle, including SIL determination and verification
- Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with safety case teams and technical stakeholders
- Experience conducting technical investigations and resolving complex engineering issues
Qualifications for the Senior EC&I Engineer:
- Degree‑level qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards professional registration is desirable
