Applies engineering concepts and theories to provide technical direction and leadership for the delivery of designs, calculations and technical solutions across a range of applications for Babcock products and services across the Engineering Product Lifecycle. Uses their experience to make decisions in complex situations. Able to work under own initiative to produce high quality outputs. Capable of managing others and or delivery of engineering and technical activities, through the application of process, domain knowledge and experience. Can apply a broad and or deep range of knowledge to complex situations whilst extending their business knowledge base in the subject area. Provides coaching, direction, assistance and mentoring to others.

The role involves:

  • Providing engineering expertise across complex civil and structural construction packages.
  • Reviewing and approving technical queries, engineering documentation, material approvals, and change requests.
  • Liaising with designers, contractors, project teams, and site representatives to support successful project delivery.
  • Identifying construction challenges, investigating root causes, and driving continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conducting construction surveillance activities and reviewing temporary works, risk assessments, and method statements to ensure safety and compliance.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week, based at Devonport. Hybrid working patterns are available, with a minimum of two days per week onsite.

Essential experience includes:

  • Experience in the design and substantiation of heavy civil engineering and building structures.
  • Knowledge of seismic design codes and their application to safety-critical infrastructure.
  • Experience of construction techniques used for nuclear safety-related structures and buildings.
  • Experience delivering major infrastructure projects within a regulated or nuclear licensed environment.
  • Understanding of engineering management systems and construction governance processes.

Qualifications:

  • Level 6 qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline, or Level 5 qualification with significant relevant experience.
  • Desirable: Professionally registered with a recognised engineering institution such as the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers. Working towards Chartered Engineer status.

Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
