Shape the future of welding excellence on some of the UK’s most critical defence projects. At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Welding Engineer at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.
The role involves:
- Taking ownership of welding governance across the site, providing expert advice, driving innovation and helping shape processes that directly support national security.
- Ensuring compliance with Babcock’s Weld Quality Management System (ISO3834‑2) and upholding high welding standards across all activities.
- Managing the introduction and implementation of new welding procedures, working closely with site welders and overseeing equipment and workshop practices.
- Authoring technical reports, proposals and recommendations for specialist welding solutions using your materials expertise.
- Assessing subcontractor quality systems to ensure consistency, capability and alignment with Babcock’s welding requirements.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience:
- Strong understanding of welding processes and techniques.
- Experience working with welding quality systems or operational welding environments.
- Ability to provide technical guidance and support to multidisciplinary teams.
- Confidence in producing technical documentation or assessments.
- Strong problem‑solving approach with a commitment to high safety and engineering standards.
Qualifications:
- National Skills Framework Level 5 qualification (or equivalent), such as Foundation degree, Diploma, HND, BEng/BSc or MEng/MSc (in relevant engineering disciplines).
- Additional welding, materials or quality‑related technical training or certifications - Desirable.
Security Clearance: The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
