The role involves working within the Independent Nuclear Oversight (INO) Group, providing regulatory interface and assurance on nuclear safety, radiological safety, radioactive waste management, and compliance with legal and contractual requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Independent Peer Review of safety documents, policy, methodology, strategy and guidance documents under the BMS, Nuclear Site Licence and MOD Authorisation.
- Present findings of Peer Review to the Nuclear Safety Committee on behalf of the Independent Peer Review Manager.
- Lead and manage consultants contracted for external Peer Reviews.
- Assist in formulating IPR strategy and policy to address emergent issues.
- Prepare Peer Review reports, ensuring required standards and timescales, and integrate them into the SCaNDS/IPR database and the Licensee’s documentation archive.
Essential Experience:
- General safety-related engineering experience in a high-hazard industry.
- Significant experience in safety analysis, including FMECA and fault-tree analysis, supporting probabilistic and deterministic safety assessments.
- Experience in developing, managing and analysing fault schedules and deriving safety functional requirements.
- Experience authoring safety case claims, arguments and evidence to demonstrate risk management.
- Detailed understanding of Naval Base infrastructure and submarine engineering would be advantageous.
Qualifications:
- Degree in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline.
- Chartered accreditation by an appropriate professional institution.
- Completion of NUC0793 Nuclear Plant Foundation Course Module 1 (Babcock can provide training).
- Completion of NUC0794 Nuclear Fundamentals (Foundation) Course Module 2 (Babcock can provide training).
- Completion of NUC0911 Introduction to Safety Engineering (Babcock can provide training).
Security Clearance:
The successful candidate must achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Many positions require national security clearance and trade control restrictions; eligibility may be affected by place of birth, nationality, citizenship and residency.
