The Role

As a Driver and Ground Handler, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be part of a small, friendly Transport Services team where people work well together and take pride in doing the job properly. You’ll be driving a mix of vehicles, from cars and minibuses to rigid and articulated LGVs, depending on the task. The job is about getting RAF personnel, vehicles and equipment where they need to be, safely and on time. It’s a well-structured driving role on a unique RAF site, offering variety in the work and the chance to be part of a dependable and supportive team.

Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:

  • Transporting recruits and station personnel between units and the local area using a range of vehicles
  • Carrying out detailed monthly checks of the vehicle fleet and reporting any defects to the Transport Control Office
  • Preparing vehicles for events such as graduation days

Uniform will be provided and must be worn as a matter of company policy. This role is full time and based onsite at RAF Benson, near Oxfordshire. You’ll work an average of 39 hours a week on a shift basis. There are early, day, and evening shifts available, with preferences taken into account where possible. Shifts are planned in advance, although some flexibility may occasionally be required to meet operational needs.

Essential experience of the Driver and Ground Handler

  • Experience of driving a range of vehicles
  • A good working knowledge of Driver's Hours Regulations in line with EU Directive 561/2006
  • CAT B Licence
  • Large Goods Vehicles (LGV)
  • DVLA Licence Category C
  • Digital Tachograph Card

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain BPSS security clearance EDBS for this role. Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
