The role

As a Senior Electrical Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a vital leadership role in delivering high‑integrity engineering solutions within highly regulated, safety‑critical nuclear environments. Your expertise will directly support safe plant operations, regulatory compliance, and long‑term infrastructure resilience.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:

  • Deliver electrical, control and instrumentation engineering solutions across complex nuclear and defence projects
  • Produce high‑quality EC&I deliverables including control philosophies, requirements specifications, interlock definitions and software management plans
  • Manage engineers and designers to ensure accurate, compliant and timely production of technical outputs
  • Support hazard studies, design risk assessments and regulatory assurance activities
  • Work closely with project managers, safety teams, customers and supply chain partners to integrate solutions successfully

This is a full‑time role working 37 hours per week, based at any of our main Cavendish locations including Glasgow, Leicester, Bristol, Newbury, Warrington. Hybrid working patterns are available, with a minimum of working 3 days on site.

Essential experience of the Senior EC&I Engineer:

  • Strong experience delivering EC&I engineering within regulated or safety‑critical environments
  • Proven background working with control systems, automation or instrumentation solutions
  • Experience supporting nuclear, defence, energy or comparable highly regulated industries
  • Ability to manage technical deliverables and support multidisciplinary project teams
  • Clear understanding of safety, quality and compliance obligations

Qualifications for the Senior EC&I Engineer:

  • Degree‑qualified in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer status or progress toward professional registration is advantageous

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
