The role

As a Metrology Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how we measure, inspect and assure quality across advanced manufacturing programmes that support critical defence capability. Working within our Mission Systems business, you will be at the forefront of developing inspection strategies and processes that support current and future submarine programmes—work that directly contributes to national security. This is a highly visible role where your expertise in measurement and inspection will influence key engineering decisions, improve production performance, and ensure quality at every stage. You’ll collaborate with manufacturing engineering, inspection and quality teams, while building your own expertise in a dynamic, forward‑thinking environment.

Day-to-day, you will be required to:

  • Develop and implement inspection strategies, processes and measurement systems
  • Support the introduction of measurement management systems and associated standards
  • Create and improve inspection processes for products and equipment across manufacturing
  • Investigate non-conformances, analysing trends and driving continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with production teams to ensure quality, efficiency and cost‑effective delivery

This is a 37-hour per week role, Monday to Friday, with flexible working hours, based on‑site at Ashton Vale, Bristol.

Essential Experience

  • Experience managing change within a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of inspection techniques including optical, contact and manual methods
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding and assembly
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams

Qualifications

  • HNC (or equivalent) in Metrology or an engineering discipline, or significant relevant experience in a metrology or inspection role

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
