The Role

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial and estimating functions of our projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their QS career to gain hands-on experience across a diverse range of industrial services. You will work closely with senior commercial staff, estimators, project managers, and operational teams to ensure projects are competitively priced and delivered efficiently and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with cost estimation and preparation of tenders and quotations for new projects
  • Review drawings, specifications, and scope documents to support pricing activities
  • Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations
  • Support cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting for live projects
  • Assist with the preparation of valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts
  • Monitor project costs and identify potential risks or variations
  • Help manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and accounts
  • Maintain accurate commercial and estimating records and documentation
  • Assist with contract administration and compliance
  • Liaise with site teams to track progress, productivity, and costs

About You

  • Degree or working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
  • Some experience (placement or post-graduate) in construction or industrial services is desirable
  • Basic understanding of contracts (e.g. NEC or JCT) and commercial principles
  • Exposure to estimating or tendering processes is advantageous
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with good attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and general IT systems
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Willingness to travel to sites as required
