The purpose of the internship is to provide meaningful professional hands-on experience to students with leadership potential and proven academic performance. Werfen hires students majoring in Engineering, Environmental, Health & Safety, and Life Sciences fields into this internship program based on business need. Ideal candidates will combine technical and business knowledge with analytical strength and creative problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Program under the direction of the EHS Officer.
- Assist with implementation & improvement of ISO Environmental Management System.
- Assist with improvements to recycling, reuse, and waste reduction programs.
- Assist with improvements to the PPE assessments.
- Assist with the implementation of Environmental Objectives and Targets.
- Inspect fall protection & spill response equipment.
- Work with all departments to update chemical inventories and Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) in an online system.
- Assist with other projects, as assigned by the EHS Officer.
Key Attributes
- Interested in working in a manufacturing or laboratory setting in the Environmental, Health & Safety field upon graduation.
- Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal & organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and multitask.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing B.S. in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field with a minimum of 2 college semesters complete.
- Ability to multitask.
The hourly range for this role is $22/hr to $30/hr. Individual compensation will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience and grade level completed.
