The Production Operative in the Sandwich Department is responsible for the preparation, assembly, and packing of sandwiches in line with company specifications, food safety standards, and production targets. The role requires a strong focus on quality, hygiene, safety, and teamwork within a fast-paced, chilled food production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, assemble, and pack sandwiches accurately according to company recipes, specifications, and portion controls.
  • Ensure all products meet required quality, presentation, and freshness standards.
  • Follow production plans and work instructions to achieve daily output targets.
  • Carry out visual quality checks and report any defects or concerns immediately.
  • Minimise waste by handling ingredients and products carefully and responsibly.

Food Safety & Hygiene

  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and food safety at all times.
  • Follow all food safety procedures, including allergen controls and cross-contamination prevention.
  • Ensure workstations, tools, and equipment are kept clean, tidy, and sanitised.
  • Comply with temperature controls, especially when working with chilled ingredients and products.

Health & Safety

  • Work safely at all times in line with company health & safety procedures.
  • Use equipment and tools correctly and only as trained.
  • Remain alert when working around machinery, PPT, and other moving equipment.
  • Report accidents, near misses, hazards, or unsafe practices promptly.
  • Accept responsibility for personal health and safety and that of others in the work area.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work effectively as part of a production team to meet departmental objectives.
  • Follow instructions from Supervisors and Shift Managers accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate any issues affecting quality, safety, or productivity to line management.
  • Support colleagues to ensure smooth workflow and continuity of production.

Compliance & Company Standards

  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and values.
  • Support company initiatives and continuous improvement activities.
  • Participate in required training, including food safety, health & safety, and operational training.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as required to support the business.

Skills & Experience

  • Ability to work accurately and consistently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Good attention to detail, particularly with food presentation and portion control.
  • Strong awareness of hygiene, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work to set standards and targets.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Previous experience in food production, sandwich making, or catering.
  • Basic food hygiene training (or willingness to complete training).

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to undertake manual handling tasks, including standing for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working daily in chilled and cold storage conditions.
  • Ability to maintain concentration and accuracy throughout the shift.
