  • About Wenzel’s

At Wenzel's the Bakers, we're proud to be a family-owned business with over 50 years of baking heritage.

Built on quality, passion, and tradition, we combine our roots with a modern, forward-thinking mindset to deliver great-tasting products and exceptional customer experiences across our stores and digital channels.

As we continue to develop our customer proposition, we are looking to strengthen our understanding of customer behaviour, preferences and expectations.

We are seeking a confident and personable Customer Insight & Research Assistant to support our Marketing Team by gathering valuable, first-hand customer feedback.

This is a summer job opportunity, ideal for someone looking to gain practical experience in marketing, consumer research, retail or data analysis.

The Role

This is a customer-facing research role focused on understanding why customers visit Wenzel’s, what influences their purchasing decisions, and what prevents them from making a purchase.

You will work outside selected Wenzel’s stores, engaging with customers and members of the local community and conducting short, structured surveys and interviews.

The information you collect will help inform our marketing activity, product development, customer experience, promotions and wider business decisions.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a growing UK food and retail business and develop valuable communication, research and data-collection skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct face-to-face customer research outside selected Wenzel’s stores.
  • Understand the reasons behind customers' purchasing and non-purchasing decisions.
  • Gather feedback on products, pricing, availability, service, and the overall customer experience.
  • Identify customer preferences, needs, and potential areas for improvement.
  • Identify recurring themes, trends, and customer insights within the data collected.
  • Provide regular feedback and observations to the Marketing Team.
  • Represent the Wenzel’s brand professionally at all times.
  • Work across multiple Wenzel’s locations as required by the research programme.

About You

We are looking for someone who is

  • Confident and comfortable approaching members of the public.
  • Naturally friendly, approachable and engaging.
  • An excellent verbal communicator.
  • Professional and confident when representing a consumer-facing brand.
  • Curious and genuinely interested in understanding people's opinions and behaviours.
  • Highly organised and reliable.
  • Comfortable using smartphones, tablets and digital survey tools.
  • Able to work independently and manage their time effectively.
  • Observant, with a good eye for identifying patterns and trends.
  • Interested in marketing, customer research, consumer behaviour, retail or business.
  • Flexible and willing to travel between different Wenzel’s locations.
  • Key Skills
  • Communication: Able to confidently engage with a wide range of people and establish rapport quickly.
  • Customer Focus: Naturally interested in understanding customers and their experiences.
  • Data & Accuracy: Able to record information accurately and consistently.
  • Professionalism: Represents Wenzel’s positively and maintains a professional approach at all times.
  • Initiative: Comfortable working independently and proactively identifying useful customer feedback.
  • Teamwork: Able to communicate findings clearly with the Marketing Team.

What We Offer

  • A paid summer job with a well-established UK food and retail business.
  • Practical experience in customer insight and market research.
  • The opportunity to work directly with the Wenzel’s Marketing Team.
  • Experience collecting and analysing customer feedback.
  • The opportunity to influence future products, promotions and customer experiences.
  • Valuable experience for your CV and future career.
  • Flexible part-time working hours.
  • Free lunch on shift and 50% off Wenzel’s products

This is a research role, not a sales role. Your primary responsibility is to listen, understand and accurately capture what customers are telling us.

Working Pattern

This is a part-time temporary summer position with flexible working hours, including weekday and weekend shifts.

The role will involve working across multiple selected Wenzel’s locations, depending on the requirements of the research programme.

Candidates must be comfortable travelling between locations as required.

£12.71 per hour for ages 21 and above

If you are confident, outgoing, and interested in gaining hands-on experience in marketing, customer research, and consumer behaviour, we would love to hear from you.
