Summary
A Senior CAD Technician at Wentworth is responsible for the preparation, detailing and modelling of Steel and Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures using industry standard software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Tekla Structures) from engineer’s briefs and working collaboratively with the engineer.
A Senior CAD Technician is expected to function as a semi-autonomous team member with the potential for full delegated responsibility for task delivery.
They use their knowledge, skills, and experience to prepare drawings and models with appropriate skill and care in accordance with the requirements of the brief.
They provide on-the-job training for CAD technicians for them to develop an understanding of “what good drawing looks like” and gain an appreciation of aspects associated with constructability of the solutions put forward by the engineering team.
They plan & execute tasks to ensure successful delivery in terms of quality, cost and time.
Duties & Responsibilities
General:
- Promotes WTH to internal and external clients.
- Functions as a semi-autonomous team member with the potential for full delegated responsibility for task delivery.
- Develops general appreciation of civil / structural / geotechnical engineering design requirements.
- Develops an understanding of aspects associated with safe systems of work, safe access, and constructability.
- Regularly contacts technicians and engineers & diligently communicates with engineers to ensure that work develops efficiently and in line with projected timescale and budget.
- Has the drive to develop own skills whilst providing technical support and guidance to colleagues as required whilst.
Technical:
- Has a strong ability and knowledge of using Tekla Structures (Steel or RC detailing), in addition to AutoCAD. Revit and Civil 3D are not a requirement, but awareness & foundation skills in the software are desirable.
- Has the knowledge and ability to set out an engineering drawing to a high standard with a capability to generate 3D models, 2D drawings (plans, sections and typical details) as required by engineers/clients with a good understanding of spatial perception.
- Has a good understanding of construction processes.
- Ensures the brief is adequate and well understood prior to starting the work and maintains regular contact with the task’s owner to ensure successful delivery of the task.
- Is experienced in the execution of projects in accordance with BS EN ISO 19650 'Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM).
Commercial:
- Understands that the time allocated for each task is related to a contractual engagement with a client, and deviating from the time allocated for a task has commercial implications for the project and for the wider business.
- Identifies change, raises early warnings & change notes.
Time:
- Plans and organizes own work and prioritizes to meet agreed deadlines.
- Identifies when deadlines are not going to be achieved, communicates with stakeholders, and identifies remedial actions.
Requirements
Essential:
– BEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering.
– Typically, a minimum of 5 years relevant post graduate experience.
– Tekla Structures (Steel or RC detailing).
– AutoCAD.
Desirable:
– CITB Construction Skills Certification Scheme Card.
– Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks.
