A design engineer at Wentworth is responsible for undertaking civil, structural and geotechnical design / checking & method development tasks from client briefs with supervision.
They use their knowledge, skills and experience to identify and implement practical, cost effective and safe solutions with due diligence, skill and care in accordance with statutory legislation, the suite of Eurocodes and other approved industry body guidance and established best practice.
A design engineer is expected to function as a semi-autonomous team member with the potential for full delegated responsibility for task delivery.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Undertakes civil, structural and geotechnical design / checking & method development tasks from client briefs with supervision. Develops concept and detailed design approaches using appropriate tools to suit the complexity of the task.
- Uses their knowledge, skills and experience to identify and implement practical, cost effective and safe solutions with due diligence, skill and care in accordance with statutory legislation, the suite of Eurocodes and other approved industry body guidance and established best practice.
- Has working knowledge of industry standard structural/geotechnical software packages with a working understanding of their limitations as well as capability of producing sketches to scale by hand and/or using CAD.
- Ensures engineers & technicians allocated to deliver tasks under their supervision are adequately briefed and supported to ensure understanding and successful delivery of the task.
- Is proficient in the execution of projects in accordance with BS EN ISO 19650 \’Organization and digitization of information about buildings and civil engineering works, including building information modelling (BIM)’.
- Regularly contacts technicians and junior engineers & diligently communicates with their supervising engineer to ensure that work develops efficiently and in line with projected timescale and budget. Provides technical support and guidance to colleagues as required.
- Understands commercial engagement mechanisms, executes works in accordance with budgets & commercial mechanisms with the assistance of a team leader.
Requirements
- A minimum of 4 years relevant post graduate experience.
- BEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural, or geotechnical engineering.
- GMICE or GIStructE
- MEng (Hons) degree in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.
- MSc degree in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering.
- CEng MICE or MIStructE
